How Our Theme Came to Be

Our theme for the Conference is Women of Virtue. A famous scripture which goes along with the theme is Proverbs 31:10 ¶Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

I will soon have three daughters in Young Women's. Over the past few years the YW themes have made an impact on my girls and my whole family. Last year their theme was the Thirteenth Article of Faith:

“We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things” (Articles of Faith 1:13).

You can read more about the theme here

I looked up Virtue in the Guide to the Scriptures. Being virtuous is being pure, and having integrity and strength.

Becoming a virtuous woman may start in Young Women's but isn't it a lifelong quest to develop all these things within us? We are striving to become perfect. It is a lot to live up to. We will fall down, but that is why we need the Savior to lift us back up.

This quote by President Uchtdorf is so reassuring:

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses.
It’s wonderful that you have strengths.
And it is part of your mortal experience that you do have weaknesses.
God wants to help us to eventually turn all of our weaknesses into strengths, but He knows that this is a long-term goal. He wants us to become perfect, and if we stay on the path of discipleship, one day we will. It’s OK that you’re not quite there yet. Keep working on it, but stop punishing yourself.
Dear sisters, many of you are endlessly compassionate and patient with the weaknesses of others. Please remember also to be compassionate and patient with yourself.
